About Leeds Aerial Arts

Leeds Aerial Arts was established in 2013 by Lorna Mackinder.

Lorna is an experienced dance teacher working with dancers of all ages across the Yorkshire Region. As a freelance artist Lorna inspires new and experienced dancers to try styles including Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz and of course, Aerial Dance!

Lorna graduated from Edge Hill University with a Degree in Dance with Aerial Performance, under the direction of Wired Aerial Theatre. Lorna’s technical training inspires the content of all of her classes, she encourages good technique to enable dancers to build strength, flexibility and confidence in the equipment as well as to increase confidence their bodies’ abilities in a safe and enjoyable environment.

In 2013 Lorna was awarded a ‘Kick Start’ Bursary from Yorkshire Dance to set up a programme of Aerial Dance classes in Leeds. Three years on Aerial Dance has become a permanent fixture on the Yorkshire Dance timetable, offering beginners, improvers and advanced level aerial courses and a weekly drop in class. In 2016 Leeds Aerial Arts expanded to offer classes in aerial silks at their Weetwood venue, and classes in aerial hoop and silks for members of Vertical Fitness in partnership with the University of Leeds.
